Playschool parents list our dedicated and knowledgeable teachers as their favorite feature of our school's programming. Our teachers bring years of education, experience, and commitment with them into our classrooms.

ANDREA BUTCHART

Co-Director/Teacher

  • Education: Bachelor of Science, Elementary and Early Childhood Education 

  • Experience: I joined Playschool staff in 2017! I also spent eight years teaching in the public school system, primarily kindergarten. I love math, and was the Math Teacher Leader at my school during that time.

  • Free time: My busy crew enjoys watching and spending time playing baseball!

LORI HANLON

Teacher

  • Education: Bachelor of Science, Elementary Education (PreK-6); Master of Science in Education, with an emphasis on reading instruction

  • Experience: I taught kindergarten for eight years, before taking time off to raise my four children. I've also been a 4K religious education teacher since 2000. I joined the Playschool staff in 2016. 

  • Free time: I enjoy reading, walking, and spending time with my family.  I especially enjoy watching my children play sports.
     

“Reading to the children is one of my favorite parts of teaching preschool. I enjoy seeing the children's enthusiasm as they share their thoughts and ideas about a story.”

MEGGEN KAUFMAN

Teacher

  • Education: Bachelor of Arts, English; Bachelors of Arts, Studio Art 

  • Experience: I joined the Playschool staff in 2015. Before that, I spent ten years working with children in preschool enrichment programming and in-home daycare service. 

  • Free time: I enjoy serving as an educator during Sunday school and on the Religious Education Board at my church. I also love road-tripping with my family. Our most recent adventure took us to Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
     

“My favorite thing about being in the classroom is getting to spend time with these little people. Their sense of humor is so individual and their way of looking at things so unique. I really am very honored that they allow me to know them in this way, inviting me into their world.”

KAREN MARTENS

Co-Director/Teacher

  • Education: Bachelor of Science, Elementary and Early Childhood Education with a minor in Spanish 

  • Experience: I was hired at Greendale Playschool in 2010.  Prior to that, I taught Head Start in MPS for six years, where I had the privilege of working with three and four-year olds.  I also was an instructor of Early Childhood Education at the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee.

  • Free time: I love spending time with my family playing games, camping, and going on road trips.  I also love to cheer my kids on in their many activities!  I am very involved with their sports and school functions.  My older children live in Madison, and I love to visit them!  Badger games and the Dane County Farmers' Market are some of my favorite Madison pastimes.
     

"My favorite part about teaching is nurturing these young minds as they grow and learn about the world around them. I love to engage the children in learning through activities, allowing them to explore things in their unique way.  My goal is to help them create a love for learning that will stay with them as they grow."

MEGAN ROCQUE

Teacher

  • Education: Bachelor of Science, Middle Childhood Early Adolescence (Grades 1-8) with a minor Social Science and Natural Science 

  • Experience: I joined Playschool in August of 2018. Prior to this, I substitute-taught in various districts for five years. I also taught third grade in the School District of Greenfield for two years and taught middle school social studies and science in the Milwaukee Public School District for three years.

  • Free time: In my free time, I love to spend time with my family, travel, and do home renovation projects.
     

"Each child is unique, bringing with them a plethora of knowledge and experiences to share. Providing an environment where children feel safe to take risks, explore, and grow into becoming a lifelong learner is so important to me. My absolute favorite part of teaching is watching that "aha" moment occur for a child in my classroom.”

ELLEN RODER

Teacher

  • Education: Bachelor of Arts, Psychology; Master of Science, Occupational Therapy 

  • Experience: I was fortunate to join the Playschool staff in 2015. Prior to that, I enjoyed working with children providing occupational therapy services at Children's Hospital for over 20 years. I've had pediatric OT experience in inpatient, outpatient, community, and school settings.

  • Free time: I enjoy spending time with my husband and four children. And I love reading a good book and being outdoors.
