Learning through Academics and Play
While a typical day depends a lot upon the class in which your child is enrolled, the basic structure for all of our classes is similar. Each class session is divided into three areas: activity time, group time, and variety time. Children learn beginning educational concepts through weekly themed activities.
The program and classroom in which your child is enrolled determines how many children are in each class. Our large classrooms house one teacher and a maximum of ten students, while our small classrooms have one teacher and a maximum of eight students. We pride ourselves on keeping our student-to-teacher ratio very low, giving our students opportunities for group interaction and one-on-one learning time with their teacher.
The number of days your child attends school depends on the class they are enrolled in. Much like an elementary school, each class starts in the fall and runs until spring. Typcially, the number of days a student attends school per week increases with their age. Pre-3 students meet once a week. Children enrolled in our 3K program have opportunities to choose a class that meets twice a week or three times a week. And students in our 4K program are able to select a class that meets three times a week or four times a week. Please check out our Academics page to learn more.
If you are considering Greendale Playschool for your child, we encourage you to set up a private tour of our facility. Our teachers are thrilled to meet potential new students and answer any questions you may have about our school and its programs. Please sign up here or contact us, and we will set up a time that is convenient.
Current students of Greendale Playschool and their siblings are given first priority in the registration process. Open Registration for new families occurs in early February. To be added to the list of our notification letters for the upcoming registration period, please send us an email and we will send you more details. If you are interested in enrolling your child at Playschool and have missed open registration, please send us an email or contact Kayleigh Wilbur, Vice Chairperson of our Board, at 414.737.9446.
New families must register in person at Open Registration. At that time, parents will be able to confirm at registration the class and time their child is registered for. A non-refundable $80 family deposit is required at the time of registration. During registration, teacher and health forms will be provided to parents. Forms may also be printed from our website. You can find them on our Enrollment page. These forms should be returned before school starts in the fall. Returning families are mailed registration materials and receive priority registration in January. All families registering after Open Registration may do so by mail.
Please refer to our Enrollment page, under the Tuition subheading.
Greendale Playschool operates on the academic school calendar and follows state guidelines regarding admission. Students at Greendale Playschool attend class with their school peer group. They graduate from one program in the spring and may move to another in the fall, much as they will in elementary school. A child must be three years old by September 1st of the academic year you are registering for to enroll in our 3K program. If you child does not turn three by September 1st, you may enroll your child in our Pre-3 program as long as their birthday is prior to November 30th.
Greendale Playschool is not sanctioned by the state to change diapers or pull-ups, so our school requires that all students know how to use the toilet prior to starting school. Teachers are sensitive to children’s need for reminders during the transition to the school environment with the expectation that less reminders will be needed as the school year progresses.
